Privacy Policy & Data Protection
Last Updated: September 2026 • Starlink Outage Map (starlinkoutagemap.com)
1. Core Privacy Philosophy & Zero PII Architecture
Starlink Outage Map (starlinkoutagemap.com, "we", "us", or "our") operates strictly under the principle of Data Minimization (GDPR Art. 5). Our platform does NOT require user registration, account logins, passwords, email addresses (unless voluntarily subscribing to outage alerts), social network logins, physical residential street addresses, or government IDs.
All outage monitoring, live maps, latency charts, and troubleshooting directories are accessible without creating any personal user profile.
2. GPS & Geolocation Data Processing Notice (Strictly On-Demand)
To provide precise crowdsourced telecommunication diagnostics, our application offers an optional "Use My GPS" feature on outage reporting forms. We process location data under strict privacy safeguards:
- Explicit User Trigger (Voluntary Consent): Geolocation is never requested, read, or sniffed automatically in the background. The HTML5 Geolocation API is invoked only after the user explicitly clicks the "Use My GPS" button.
- Single-Use Execution (No Route Tracking): Location coordinates are queried exactly once at the moment of submission to identify the nearest satellite coverage beam/grid and city. We do NOT perform continuous GPS tracking, persistent location polling, or geofencing.
- Spatial Disaggregation & Zero Personal Identity Linkage: Coordinates are processed into city/postal-code centroids and anonymous GIS heatmap dots. They are never linked to any real name, phone number, MAC address, or residential door number.
- Manual Alternative: Users who decline browser location permission can freely type their general city name or 5-digit postal code manually without any functional penalty.
3. Cookies, Local Storage & Advertising Disclosures
We use client-side storage technologies to ensure platform reliability and support free access:
| Type | Name / Provider | Purpose | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
| First-Party Storage | theme_preference, lang_preference | Remembers dark/light mode and selected UI language. | Strictly Essential |
| First-Party Session | outage_reported_[city] | 60-second rate-limiting token to prevent duplicate accidental report submissions. | Strictly Essential |
| Third-Party Cookies | Google AdSense / DoubleClick | Serves contextual and personalized ads to fund independent infrastructure. | Advertising |
| Third-Party Cookies | Amazon Associates Affiliate Tag | Attributes hardware accessory referral purchases without recording personal identity. | Affiliate Tracking |
Managing and Opting Out of Advertising Cookies:
- Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings.
- You can also opt out of participating third-party vendor advertising cookies via the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI) or Your Online Choices (EDAA).
4. Amazon Associates Affiliate Disclosure
Starlink Outage Map is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and affiliated international Amazon stores.
As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. This comes at zero additional cost to you. Product recommendations (such as 12V DC power converters, POE injectors, ethernet adapters, and roof mounts) are selected objectively based on Starlink hardware technical specifications.
5. Aggregated Non-PII Data Analytics & Research
To advance satellite internet transparency and research low-Earth-orbit (LEO) network resilience, crowdsourced telemetry (regional outage rates, latency averages, and general weather correlation tags) may be compiled into aggregated, de-identified research whitepapers or licensed to academic and industrial research organizations.
All such research outputs consist exclusively of statistical aggregates (e.g. "Region 78701 experienced 99.4% uptime during Q3") and never contain individual personal records.
6. GDPR (EU/UK) & CCPA/CPRA (California) Rights
Under global privacy legislation including the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA):
- Right to Know & Access: You have the right to request disclosure of categories of data collected.
- Right to Deletion: You may request the deletion of any crowdsourced report filed from your network IP.
- Do Not Sell My Personal Information: We do not sell personal consumer identification records to third-party data brokers.
For privacy inquiries or deletion requests, contact our compliance team at compliance@starlinkoutagemap.com.
